You're making quite a statement.......if that's not what you meant then you need to clear things up.

Its not quite a statement at all. Every country is responsible to do what is in the best interest of its citizens. That's not an out of left/right wing statement at all.

The point I was making was against Fowler's statement that the US is responsible for security in Iraq. The US's priority in Iraq is doing what is best for the US. Most of that goal has been accomplished with the removal of Saddam's regime.

The current US activity in Iraq seems to be to give them the opportunity to establish a secular, civil society. The reason for that goal seems to be to help introduce democracy to the ME and reduce the current system of governance which has produced all these loonies that are willing to blow themselves up to hit (among other things) US embassies, US naval ships and US office towers.

This second goal is much more nebulous, difficult to measure the benefits of, and difficult to force upon them than the removal of Saddam's regime.

If the US decides the second goal is not worth the cost to the US, then I don't think any person in government or the military feels the US should stay because, as you/Fowler say, "the US is responsible for Iraqi security". Some members of the public may think so (evidently you and Fowler), but you are in a deep minority.

And just for the record, there can be consequences stemming from one's behavior.

Yawn. We can all point out the obvious.
