When I joined the USMC, I went in initially at Philly. There I was put with a bunch of inner city kids from the big North Eastern cities and we were taken by train to Parriss Island. I saw kids that HONEST TO GOD had NEVER SEEN A COW before. Thats how INNER CITY they were. To look at them, you would have thought they were nothing but cannon fodder. However, after 13 weeks of boot camp (thats what it was when I went in) they were the best looking MEN in the country to me. haha. Its only because I realize how the service can TURN PEOPLE AROUND that makes me support the draft. However, the MARINES are volunteer so none of us could say we were drafted and bitch about being there. jdn
