Not necessarily.

The vast majority of people are either:

infantile: dependent, needy, looking to be fed, told, informed.

adolescent: rebelling against, contrary, seemingly interested in whatever is an expression of "my way"

TV and mass media feed BOTH audiences.

Becoming an ADULT is a process of growing beyond either of the above, which the vast majority of the people never do.

Mass market media don't bother to cater to the ADULT audience.
But they give the IMPRESSION that their "anchors", commentators, authorities etc ARE the adults that should be listened to.

It is all a very studied situation in order to create an
ENVIRONMENT for selling products/services while being engaged in the larger task of ensuring mass conformity to the Government official "spin"

Since the media faithfully do that they are rewarded by broadcast rules that give them a free reign.

Namaste!
