I don't know how they get any in this environment. Although I suppose there are people in the military who are willing to die for a phony story. There are also lifers who have 16 years in and need 20 for a pension.

One of the problems is that there is a clause that once you are in they can keep you as long as they want for unit cohesion.

Also any promises made to you may or may not be kept. I haven't heard of any court yet ever holding the army to their promises.

I guess the army probably generally pays you what they promised. I know the CIA and other agencies may or may not pay you what they promised.
