I disagree. I think it's harder to go wildly off the rails when a whole diverse country is watching you (and its news media), then it is in a small enclave, where you may have a very large pocket of folks who all think the same way, and who don't mind at all discriminating against a small minority. I'm thinking about that billboard in that community- the one about the Koran- that said it needed to be flushed. I don't see that kind of policy originating at the federal government level (I know, it was a church that did that, but I'm using that is symptomatic of small town thinking. What do you bet some of the town leaders go to that church?). That's a small community type of thing. And the minority will have 0 power ousting anyone in that sort of situation. The minority will either take what is shoveled at it, or be forced to move or sue. None of those are really good life choices.
