Kennedy did not escalate the Vietnam War. He sent special forces troops as a strategic holding action to relieve the beleaguered French. It was a small operation then. The Green Berets worked with the Montagards and others to hold back the North Vietnamese. We were basically preventing an all-out civil war which our side would have probably lost.

JFK hoped to end it and withdraw when the rightwing forces murdered him. Then they escalated Vietnam like crazy. Maybe not coincidentally, Johnson was in bed with what was then Halliburton, called Brown+Root. They made billions off the war. The same way Halliburton is raking in billions thanks to Bush-cheney.

Johnson then led to Nixon who was just as bad or worse and in bed with the same war profiteers and domino theory false prophets. Now we know that that whole war made no sense at all, Vietnam was never a threat to us and the esclation was based on lies and misjudgements. But when JFK was in charge it made sense and we were actually winning.
