" Lots of people may have liberal social and political ideas but nevertheless live their lives by conservative values."

And then again there are people who do not. We're all different- and that's probably a good thing. I think we should just leave each other alone regarding the personal choices we make about what we do. In fact, I think we should probably leave each other alone about ALL things, and talk about issues, and not personal things, unless in talking about personal things we aren't slamming other folks in a specific and targeted and personal manner (not saying you were, but other posts definitely were). But that's just my opinion.

Lots of people may have liberal social and political ideas but nevertheless live their lives by conservative values.

That's very true. There are very few people I know, and I know a lot of people, who are "pure" liberals or "pure" conservatives. Most people are a mix.

One specific example; a former neighbor of mine had the terrible experience of having his daughter raped and killed by a man who had escaped from prison where he was serving time on a previous rape/murder conviction. This formerly very liberal, strongly anti-death penalty friend is now an ardent proponent of the death penalty for rape/murder cases.
