Patent "trolls" - good label! Maybe patent "leeches" would be better. I'd say legislation like this is way overdue. Too many patentees trying to stretch their invention to cover what it was never intended to cover.

But I'd be worried if i held shares in patent troll companies like IDCC. Maybe some good short candidates to consider once the bill passes.

They had a good article in the NY Times magazine section a couple of years ago, really blasting and mocking the patent system. In it was a hypothetical patent entitled "Method of Walking and Chewing Gum." Since there was no "prior art" that could be found on the method, US patent no. 1,000,000,000 was granted.
