Brian > Can an opinion forged by Beslan truly be bigoted? I would say no

Yes, I would agree providing one is absolutely sure who was behind it? In fact, they may not have been Chechnyan (Muslim) rebels but agents provocateurs.

To recap, Vladimir Khodov was said to have been killed during the storming. Vassily, however, refutes that report. “I saw Khodov being interrogated. At one point he produced a 50-ruble note and said: ’Thanks to that piece of paper I passed through all the checkpoints and thanks to it again in two years from now I will be out of jail and will again kill for dough.’

”Throughout the questioning he was insolent and self-confident. On the night of Sept. 4 he was taken to Moscow, and where is he now, I do not know,“ Vassily said.

”One thing proves that the seizure had been planned in advance. In summer all the tall trees around the school building were cut down. To all appearances, the rebels had been preparing a field of fire. Some 15 rebels arrived in Beslan four days before the seizure. Police received numerous calls about suspicious looking people, but no measures were taken,“ said Vassily.

Vassily said one of the rebels was a Beslan resident, an ethnic Ossetian. When one of the teachers recognized him, even though he had not taken off his mask, they cut her throat.

”Most of those rebels were mercenaries, they fought for money, not for the cause,“ Vassily said. <<

Not a single Chechen has been found among the dead gunmen who took children hostage in Beslan last week, Sergei Ivanov, Russia's defence minister, told the Guardian yesterday. "About half of the 32 terrorists have been identified and we have not yet discovered anyone from Chechnya," he said.<<

Now what do you say? Are you still so sure it was done by Muslims?
