All of the problems you list as related to oil and food production can be solved by organic, sustainable local family farming. In fact, the environmental organizations supporting sustainable agriculture do so in part because not using pesticides or massive amounts of massive machinery, and not shipping food long distances, dramatically cuts down on oil dependency in agriculture. My local natural foods store heavily supports sustainable agriculture, and is now putting stickers on all the shelves where local products are sold. There are 1,600 identifiable products in this category at the store already. I think it is a wonderful place!
