Gustave Re: "Zionism" I enjoy reading your postings and I suppose that the point of view revealed therein is very European in nature and quite different from mine but not unreasonable for a European. As Europe has a vast Arab immigration and we here in the US do not have so many Arabs I can understand how that is an important matter in your part of the world. We here have a very large Hispanic immigration and even though that is not without its problems I think our assimilation problems are much less severe than yours over there. And I hope we keep it that way and I think we will as I see a great many encouraging signs. Deportations are way up, especially to places where there have never been deportations before, even Europeans. Most small nations, especially those in the third world do a pretty good job controling their borders and I think that we here in the US have a way to go to get up to the standards of say Belize, Panama or the Philippines but with work I know we can do it, indeed there is much progress being made already.

Gustave, I believe you are somewhat mistaken in your view that there is a great collaboration between the Christian churches here and our Jewish establishment, especially with regards to Israel. I will grant you that in recent years there have been a great many pro-Israel proclaimations from various leading churchmen but that does not account for the vast US government support for Israel that has been going on for nearly 60 years. Christianity here is much different than in Europe, we have literally thousands of individual sects and sub-sects many of them in a considerable state of conflict with the others. On the other hand I don't have a rational explanation for the Israel paradox and I am a pretty well connected guy, at least some of my family members are and they don't know either. A person of the importance of say a leading US Senator would know the whole story; us of lesser rank can only guess.

I have a feeling that if things turn out the way many posters here on these "Bear" boards believe that they will, ie. worldwide recession driven along by "peak oil" and associated meltdowns that many of these sorts problems will just vanish.

Hey Gustave - You have some of these "Evangelicals" holding 3 contradictary ideas at the same time -

"Protestant zealots are at the same time earnest philosemites, fervent Zionists and incorrigible anti-Judaists..."

That's a huge mental effort !

Especially for people who think a philosemite is a big semi truck carry phylo dough.

Now I don't think GWB is dumb, but he's no rocket scientist.

Having known a number of evangelicals, that would be like believeing that GW Bush is a Grand Master Chess player.
