That never happened. You speak as if you were there. Archaeological evidence points to the conclusion that it did happen. As to the last part of your post, I think that is true. The rise of Israel and the homecoming of the Jews was a product of the rising nationalist aspiration of the Jews embodied by Zionism, as well as the European desire to remove the Jews from their societies. Pogroms were widespread and served many purposes. One was to get the Jews to go back to Israel. It worked.
