I don't think Australia will have a problem issuing a "Protective Visa" for the Chinese diplomat, although he may eventually end up in Singapore instead.

Australia doesn't want to issue political asylum which would likely create problems in their trade relationship with China.

Political asylum is used to embarrass a nation you greatly dislike, and Australia claims to have used it only twice in their history. One previous use was in April 1954 for the Vladamir Petrov and his wife. Petrov was Third Secretary to the USSR Embassy.

This explains why America has used political asylum frequently when dealing with emigrants from communist nations, especially Cuba. Its belligerence.

Some insider from FaLunGong said this so-called defector (ChenXX) has been paid by Falungong for US$400,000 to play this bad comedy. Ironically, this money may come from you and me, the US tax payers' pocket, or Taiwanese tax payers' pocket. I am not surprised he will eventually come to the US since the US is very interested in this type of junks.

I'm for selling tradeable citizenships to the highest bidders, not giving them away to people just showing up.

<Hopefully he will get asylum in some other country - hey Maurice, think this guy could do something useful ? >

The value of China per capita is pathetic. The value of NZ per capita is about US$1 million. If he pays NZ$2 million, I think he should be sold a citizenship. He seems a good bloke. Wants out of Yiwu the Mad's and Bubba the Bigot's clutches, so he must be reasonably sensible. Also he has actually escaped from China and is, at least for now, in Australia.

I didn't spend a lot of time and effort building stuff in NZ to just hand it over, for no charge, to people showing up wanting free this that and the other.

New Zealanders aren't very intelligent [average IQ only about 100] and haven't thought about this stuff, so they don't understand what they are doing. About 10,000 immigrants a year are given free citizenships. That's about $20 billion worth of citizenships, just handed over, every year. And people wonder why the roads are jammed, electricity supplies running tight, welfare budgets busting, hospital costs expanding.

Maybe he's a talented individual and I should buy him a citizenship here, and he could pay me back on a futures contract from his earnings. If he defaults, he could forfeit his citizenship and I'd resell it, making a profit.
