In the scenario envisioned here, I see no way the entire population of earth could survive. I would expect a population implosion. And wars, revolutions, disorder, ......

What Wharfy is trying to accomplish is to teach us to get involved now rather than later. He will probably fail.
The possibility of a gradual adjustment and the development of alternative fuels and modes of transport and energy generation exist. If that happens, the lifeboat may not sink.

Maybe you agree we're headed towards $6.00 a gallon fuel. Then we're off to $10.00 a gallon.
At some point? Inevitable.
