Geode, GDP per capita doesn't mean average wages per person. It's not $4K per average family. It's $1K per $40,000 of GDP, which includes companies, government services and all other GDP components. There's more to GDP than salaries and wages for individuals. Salaries and wages are not the sole component of GDP. The debts are not all due by average people. Many debts are owed by companies.

GDP per capita is about $40,000 cia.gov

$1000 per capita is not a lot compared with that. Surely you can see that?
