Bill, you nailed it - she thinks she's being cute. If you said "the sky is blue", she'd focus on the word "is" and insist you are wrong because it is actually transparent. If you replied that you meant it appears blue to the eye, she'd say "No! You must prove that it 'IS' blue." It's a petty game.
