Figure, how many people/groups are out there that first have the desire to blow up a US city, then out of those how many have the means and resources, then how many of those have the access to the bomb, then how many of those have the training and planning ability to move a bomb, undetected, from NK to NYC, then when you whittle all that down, the guy who tries gets one shot with 50 to 1 odds of actually succeeding.

Is it possible, yes. Anything is possible. Is it probable? No, it's extraordinarily improbable.

So we build star wars defenses and the money go round continues...but we can't afford national health, or SS, or .... excuse me while i puke ... sigh

Do you know how many shipping crates actually get inspected at our ports? Just 2%, confirmed by multiple sources on the Web as well as my own friend who works in the overseas shipping industry.

And what's your reasoning for setting the odds of the final step at 50 to 1? Seems like once the nuke is within our borders, it's just a simple matter of driving it to a populated area and pushing the button.

Is it probable? No, it's extraordinarily improbable.

Same à priori argument as for the Twin Towers. Not even the first attempt on them could alert the experts to the fact that it was (more than) doable.

Then it was done...
Just imagine that had happened to one of the "Old Europe" countries!

Shame on the US and a defense line equally expensive but no more efficient than Maginot.

The bad guys against all your odds always find a way around.
