I heard some solider on NPR describing what can happen a few months ago. I had no idea how powerful these bombs can be, and I doubt most here do either.

They are using some sophisticated techniques they said now, to created Shaped Charges.

These can easily overturn an armored Hummer, shoot it way in the air, and have it come back down upside down and crumpled.

It can also take out a Bradley fighting vehicle.

Apparently, the shaped charge is what does it.

Armor on Humvees doesn't phase this - but of course is better than no armor.

Sad thing is we send people over there to be sitting targets, and they are true believers in the cause. I'm guessing once they understand the level of lies to them to get them to go, and what was going on, you will have a lot of disillusioned vets similar to Vietnam - that want no part of future wars.

Five U.S. Marines killed by roadside bomb in Iraq

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A roadside bomb blast in western
Iraq killed five U.S. Marines on Thursday, the U.S. military said on Friday.

In a statement, the military said the troops from the 2nd Marine Division were in a vehicle in the town of Haqlaniya when they were killed by the explosion.

Roadside bombs are among the deadliest insurgent weapons, but they have rarely killed so many U.S. troops in a single blast.
