As Gen. Shinseki and other experts said, even before the invasion was on, we needed over 400,000 troops to keep Iraq under control. But now that things have gone absolutely haywire, we may need an even higher number. Some estimates go to as high as a million troops.

Clearly that is not possible unless there is a draft. But a draft is political suicide for Dumbya and the Republicans.

Besides, if there is a draft, impeachment becomes a distinct possibility (there is nothing like a kid being dragged into war to make a parent say, "Wait a minute! Why did we get into this war? And what did the Downing Street Memo say? Let's see...."). And withdrawal is not an option either, since Dumbya and his idiot war-movie video-watching friends have painted themselves into a corner on that one.

So what Dumbya will do is to just let the present inadequate number of troops in Iraq suffer and get killed every day. He would rather screw the country and our troops than to take the bold step (and the necessary step) of asking for a draft, or calling for a withdrawal at the fastest possible schedule.
