IRAN: ACTOR SEAN PENN IN TEHRAN AS JOURNALIST

Tehran, 10 June (AKI) - The Hollywood actor Sean Penn is in the Iranian capital, Tehran, in his new role as a journalist for the San Francisco Chronicle. The actor, who won an Oscar for the film "Mystic River", is in the country to follow the June 17 presidential elections for the American daily. Together with an interpreter, the actor was at a Tehran mosque on Friday morning, where he heard the Ayatollah Ahmad Janna ask the faithful to turn out in large numbers to vote in the elections scheduled for next Friday, to "make America angry."

Many journalists have been denied the necessary accreditation from the Iranian authorities to cover the elections.

In previous years, before and after the US-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003, Penn travelled twice to the Iraqi capital Baghdad, where he denounced both the war and the Bush administration.

Socialism is evil because it allows the corrupt to rise to the top and abuse those below. Capitalism has many of the same problems. A free press and and open govt are the only defenses against this kind of tyranny. W is making our govt less open in the name of protecting it's citizens. The danger of this kind of protection is when the protector becomes the abuser.

Every socialist govt experiment has always been tried under totalitarian regimes. Most of the productivity was being funneled to the top. That's what makes people lazy. true socialism is more like a barn raising.

Taxation under capitalism is a form of socialism. You pay taxes, and that money goes to serve the collective needs for defense, transportation, education, government etc.

Who benefits more from a dollar spent on transportation? The guy that uses the road to commute to his minimum wage job, or the business owner who needs the road for his customers to get to him?

Somehow the tax system needs to recognize "cui bono" "who benefits" from the action? Then who pays for it should be in line with the benefit. The current system has the wealthy benefiting most from tax dollars spent. They pay less taxes based on how they benefit from the result of a new road or a war that protects national security. Who benefits...and who has the most to lose? These are the questions that need to be asked when the tax man cometh.
