I want to believe it is only a handful, yes. But I just related what the Iraqi officials think. Also, it really doesn't take alot of people to create the havoc we are seeing in Iraq today. Think about it. It only took 19 hijackers to kill 3,000 American civilians. In Iraq, the insurgents are staging 50-60 attacks per day. 3-4K insurgents could easily handle that small of a volume of attacks.

Now I DO believe that there are something like 200K or maybe even more people sympathetic to the insurgents, who may even support them if they run across them. But I wouldn't characterize those sympathizers as hard core insurgents. That would be going to far.
