don't be fooled by the retrofitting insurgents hiding behind the curtain. they braved democracy with their squats and their gabi thigh bends. they braved democracy w/ the 85 percent brownouts caused by none other than enron. they braved the haliburton happy boats and the honeywell night vision goggles. Needless to say when summer comes they will enjoy the fruits of the labor from the gallium semiconductor harvest...

The majority of Iraqis DO want to nation-build. Why do you think they braved death to vote?

The only Iraqis who braved death to vote were the Sunnis. And if you remember, the Sunni turnout was very light.

Instead of watching their voting habits, why not ask yourself where are the Iraqis who are fighting back at the insurgents......and where the Iraqis who have turned informant on the insurgents?

And by the way, history tells us that Democracy can not only exist, but thrive, even with an insurgency. The U.S. has held elections every 4 years, even in the midst of a civil war, as well as during wholesale warefare with American Indians. The Iraqis will find the strength to do the same and eventually the insurgency will die out.

Now, I fervently hope we don't stay there for much more than another year or two, because I'd like to see us cut down on the costs of this war. But within 6-12 mos, the momentum being built by the new Iraq will be irreversible by the minority, die-hard insurgents.

I think you will be disappointed but knowing you, your 24/7 optimism will get you through that disappointment as well.
