In our unwillingness to make any decision that might hint at moral judgment and a reluctance to allow some to have less than others, we have gotten confused about personal responsibility and consequences. So when we are confronted with those legally competent people who squandered their money, the response will be to pick them up and take care of them.

I don't have a problem with picking them up and taking care of them. I do have a problem with taking the responsibility off their shoulders and with treating the help as a right or as insurance rather than charity.

"we have gotten confused about personal responsibility and consequences. So when we are confronted with those legally competent people who squandered their money, the response will be to pick them up and take care of them."

The New Deal and other government largesse have dealt a mortal blow to individual responsibility. We must to something to restore the moral backbone of our society.

People with means have a responsibility to allow people in need to earn money to dispatch their responsibilities. People have fallen into the trap of confusing opportunity for responsibility. We owe people opportunity.

I did not have six kids by six different partners out of wedlock and abandon them. If I had, you would not be responsible for my kids; you would owe their parents the chance to earn money to feed our children. If the parents cede the responsibility, then the children should be placed in homes with credible role models.
