I don't harbor any doubts as to whether or not Bush and his crew lied us into war -- in my view they did, and the record is fairly clear on this. Those who defend this type of action view it as a necessary to achieve a higher purpose - they believe that the ends justify the means. The same reasoning leads us to condone torture and other manner of misconduct on our part. I don't buy it -- on the contrary, I am on the side of an America that stands for something when it comes to the rule of law etc. -- I don't want to live in a police state, either in the US or in some place where Americans can conveniently forget about the nature of our actions.
