Oh, Brother! The simply stupid part of all that is that with so many generations back, how "much" of us is really the particle they should apologize to????

In my case, I have a "white slave" in my background. In the 1600's, Cromwell came to Ireland from England, and captured Land Owners in Ireland. That is, after they had killed every 10th person in each village, and then lined up all the men and boys over 12 years of age, and killed every 10th one of those as well. The rest were taken prisoner, and worked as slaves. My ancestor was taken to Barbados, with many others. He eventually escaped, and ended up in the New England Colonies.

His name was William Durkee.

Is someone going to apologize to me too.....LOLOL!

Here's a book about him.....
This novel is based on the true story of William Durgy (Durkee) who at the age of fifteen was taken prisoner after the Battle of Drogheda in 1648. He was sold as a slave and sent in irons to Barbados. Whilst there he was recruited to join the force sent to Jamaica, part of Oliver Cromwell`s Grand Western Design. He returned to Barbados and when Charles II was restored to the throne, he was granted his freedom.

Is it really any more asinine than, say, Jews seeking reparations from Nazis and Swiss banks, or Koreans seeking reparations from Japanese?

The only issue in my mind is that it seems like there is a tendency to use "black" as a proxy for "slave", when, in fact. some blacks during those days were never slaves, and some, in fact, even owned slaves.

If it's used as a way for black people, in general, to get money from white people, in general, that's asinine. Many white people in America these days are descended from people who didn't even live here during slavery days, and the same for some blacks.

On the other hand, my own ancestors owned many slaves. I don't really know what happened after the Civil War, my family was never big on family history. I found out doing research in places like the census and other old records. We didn't have much more than the proverbial pot after the Great Depression, though.
