kumar, That is true now, but when the flags were made of cotton, the dampness of the air added to the decay of the fabric, which caused the protocol to run the flag up in the morning, and take it down in the early evening to extend the life of any particular American flag. With the flags being made of nylon, or any other man made fiber, they night, and the weather doesn't have the same effect on the fabric, which allows for 24/7 flying of the flag, and the protocol was updated to reflect this.
