Actually, the "average" family was priced out of our local market long ago, and we have tax breaks in place at the local level to try to compensate. We still need the police and firefighters and teachers, so something had to be done to help them. It's not enough, and they're still shifting around trying to afford living here.

Unfortunately, my sons, who were pretty good high school athletes, wouldn't have the same coaches today that they had when they were in school. These teacher/coaches traded their existing jobs for shorter commutes and cheaper housing whenever the opportunity arose.
