Bush did not report for duty in Alabama. He went to Alabama to work, for a short time, on a political campaign, then got a free dental check-up and split. Next thing we know he's working community service in Houston, probably as penance for a hushed-up cocaine arrest. If Bush had reported, someone would have claimed the large rewards offered by awolbush.com and Gray Trudeau. He never did. AWOL is technically inaccurate but Bush did disappear from duty for 7 months and was not disciplined because his father was head of the RNC.
