Was it you who wrote a post on PFPO about there being an era when people did not ask for hand outs. Not were they comfortable accepting them. ?

If it was you I have some tales to relate about being a part of this era as a child and living through the Depression when we served meals on the back porch to drifters who were commonly called tramps. They lived along the Bushkill Creek only a few blocks from my home. The fires could be seen at night when driving by. This was a time when people helped one another.. No government hand outs then. People just survived by having the help of others or earning a few bucks doing chores.

It was an entirely different ball game back then. Nostalgic for a time when there were codes that were not spoken but were inherent in the society.. Such as never paying for anything unless you could afford it. Or thinking it was more important to save money than to spend it.
