Thanks for the tips. I can't find the relevant posts at the moment. It included a discussion of the B25 that flew into the Empire State building at the close of WW2.

The fact is the energy consideration between the two events was on a different scale. The twin towers were not designed with consideration to impacts of large airliners flying into them at full speed. I was amazed they stood up to the initial impacts.

I think the collapse of the towers is due to ordinary events as explained in this link.
