Sorry, just frustration at running out of ways to explain something that just doesn't seem to be getting through. I understand where you're coming from although I disagree with your approach. I see no indication that you understand where I'm coming from; you simply disagree.

We have here a classic contrast between the sentimental and the rational. (Now there's a worthy dichotomy.) It's OK to prefer either one, but preferably with understanding of the choice one is making.

Re Iwo Jima, I posted just recently that I used to live overlooking the memorial. In the summer they perform the Twilight Tattoo and I could watch from my balcony. It was very special.
