some discussion of solutions rather than incessant sniping from right to left and left to right.

In reading the posts, looks like most of them are the same juvenile ABB group you have here John...

re: A crash program to get us off the ME oil dependency would have killed two birds with one stone. Starved the ME of oil money and helped stave off global warming. Lost opportunities.

Why not visit this thread where there is some discussion of solutions rather than incessant sniping from right to left and left to right

John, I think its great that you have started a new thread with CJ, esp. on the third party issue. However, to come and encourage people to leave here and post over there seems a bit unfair to me. I don't want to get into a bidding war but I think we need to respect each thread's right to exist and to grow without trying to orchestrate that growth at the expense of the other. I hope you guys will continue to post over here and I intend to post over there as I find it appropriate.

Secondly, I have heard it before........the setting up of another moderated thread that is pleasant and where there is no sniping and everyone speaks civilly. Its sounds great.....at least in theory. The truth is this world is not very civil at times. In addition, there are strong issues that are dividing this country. To suggest a thread should not reflect those issues but rather be a sanitized version sounds a little stepford to me.

In any case, this thread got its start when the new AMD thread was set up with a moderator. With the risk of sounding a little dramatic, I chose to stick with this thread because it was unmoderated and best represents the democratic world in which we live. Its a messy place here because democracy is messy no matter how regulated it gets. There always will be people who you think unpleasant or who speak inappropriately. It can't be helped.....we were not born equally no matter what the Constitution says nor to we progress in the same manner.

Futhermore, democracy means everyone's right to participate........not just those with whom you agree. Over the past year, this thread has become one of the most successful threads on SI. Its one of the few threads that remains unmoderated. Repeatedly, people have PM'd me and told me to get rid of the latest poster to make the scene; that the new poster will kill the thread. In my mind, that's not how democracy works. In the real world, you can't 'kill' someone off either literally or figuratively without losing the democracy you are trying to preserve. You can either engage them or ignore them. If that's unacceptable to the posters here, I would prefer the thread dies rather than it becomes another moderated thread that 'feels' good for some people.

In any case, I have told you in a PM I wish you guys luck with the new thread........I say it again here. And let us respect our different views of the world.
