It was both the safety net proposed by FDR and the expansion of manufacturing that helped US come out of the Depression. The number of seniors in poverty was enormously reduced because of Social Security.

The old RWer's lie: War is Good for the Economy.

Well, there's been 2 years of war in Iraq and no boost to the USA economy... So goes that theory.

Anyway the old lie just demonstrates the fundamentally cynical immorality of the extreme right wing. Let's see, start a war, send poor kids to fight it and die and let the military industrialists and contractors reap the benefits. Same old story over and over again.
