Considering the Sun is out on an arm, talking about inner Galactic gases is sort of strange...

Now true, it might be the case the case that the Sun travels through interstellar clouds of gas and that can have an effect on the solar constant. Making it non-constant constant as it were. However, this has never been observed to happen. And for good reason since said gases would tend to be orbiting just like the Sun does and intersecting orbits aren't very common.
