I think most US foreign aid before 1990 was designed to prevent the spread of communism, and that took precedence over whatever else it ended up supporting.

Does that bother you? Do you think the US should support tyrants who torture and murder? Is torture and murder a normal part of life for you?

I'm just restating my understanding of history, not making any judgements about it.

However, from a very high level view, it probably made the most sense at the time. Up until the collapse of the Soviet Union I think most US foreign policy was based on stopping them. Now that that is completed, GB has changed the focus from stopping communism (regardless of what popped up in its place) toward supporting democracy.

As for torture and murder being a normal part of life for me.....oh never mind. Why I bother with you is the bigger question. Must be a very slow day at work today!!
