Indeed americans have a short term attention problem. It is also part of our nature when we are not convinced that we are going in the right direction. Biden for one more than even Bush has talked for some time about keeping our committment in iraq. I have talked that way for years. But the situation is changing on the ground in iraq and in the US. We cannot force the american people to fight the iraq war for an indefinitite time. And when you have the polls showing public opinion changing here and lets be honest Kirk, its not all the media--americans are not dumb. They can see the iraqis are following the palestinian model of self destruction and dont want our soldiers to end up being the "israelis"--neither targets or the occupier. Rampant MSM stuff on this thread is a cover up or an inablity to admit error by this administration as well as an inablility to change course. Hell maybe we should be more aggressive, not less. And then there is the recruitment issue which brings up the hated "D" word. Remeber this gens parents either were drafted or avoided and in retrospect the majority whether they fought in vietnam or evaded dont want their kids over there in this fight for those arab sunnis or shiaa. And they also dont buy anymore that this is the WOT--its just a battle in it and you can always come out of it with 3 states..
