I think he was trying to prove a point by asking how many offspring you had in relation to population growth. I don't think he really cares how many kids you have.

You understand his point, if you have two, then they have two, then they have two, then they have two

mom dad = 2
2 kids = 2
2 kids with 2 kids each = 4
4 kids with 2 kids each = 8
8 kids with 2 kids each = 16

then you are a great great grandma responsible for 30 people in the world. Who should regulate that? I believe is his point.
