Re: Iran. Best way to get a counter-revolution is to have the incumbent 'revolutionary' leadership over-play their hand and repress popular desires. That's EXACTLY what the fundamentalist, puritanical, repressive Theocratic government in Iran has been doing for DECADES: over-playing their hand and becoming increasing disliked by the public in the process. Demographics also plays into this: half the population is 20's or younger, and they don't remember the Shah, and have only dim memories of the US embassy take-over in '79. What they ARE EXTREMELY FAMILIAR WITH is the Autocratic old-fart mullahs who have been repressing basic freedoms (and economic growth) for decades now. And, they don't like 'em much....
