I agree with you. I'm not sure I agree with Friedman this time around on a few points, though. I don't think we need more soldiers in Iraq. I think we need to start placing more burden on the Iraqi leadership to get its spine in place and start confronting or assimilating the insurgents. One sure fire way to do that is to set a timetable for the withdrawal of forces. I was against timetables up until now, but I think that once the Iraqis write a constitution, ratify it, and then elect based on it, we need to have a clear exit strategy with timelines, hopefully with an end goal to get our troops down to under 10K by the end of 2006. That is what appears reasonable to me.
