I suspect that Cinderella Man isn't a big hit because Braddock wasn't really that great a fighter, compared to his contemporaries, e.g. Joe Lewis and Max Schmeling. Also, "Cinderella" is a girl's name, makes you wonder if he was a poofter. ;^)

yes....

we are very disappointed with the box office.....the word of mouth has been superb, but you hit the nail, it's the summertime silly season....

it would have been ideal to release for the christmas season, the oscar buzz would have been greater as well....but apparently the $$$$ decision makers felt they couldn't sit on it for that long
