re: "bravado"

See, I am not one of those bravado posters though. Most know that. I actually get hunted down on SI by jealous bears. I never search them out, they come after me. Are you one of those? I never have posted to you before and yet you want to bookmark me for "comic relief"? There is a message in that- it means sentiment is overly negative towards the stocks I buy. And it isn't just the individuals but the analysts too. Only now, after an incredible string of blockbuster quarters, is goog trading at 39x forward earnings. In january when GOOG had a blowout, the stock barely acknowledged it and after a 20 pt pop which is nothing on a $200 stock, the UBS guy downgraded. You would have NEVER, NEVER seen this "hot stock bashing" in the late 80s for example. Now, its all over the place.

I have been valuing tech companies in silicon valley for years. There are a number of reasons why goog is a great company poised to take the mantle from microsoft. One big reason is that the recession was so terrible that it wiped out all of the upstarts leaving only the established, declining players (sun and oracle) and one giant upstart- GOOG. Everybody else was wiped out, this is not normal. In 91 when IBM declined we had 3 db companies remaining to take the throne, that is the normal case. Not this time. Goog is all there is. Startups are begining to be funded but it s too late.
