The Catholics beat you to that point of view with original sin.

The convincing part is great because this is where you can really cash in as being leader. People will pay you off in many different ways.

Of course those that can't ante up must be made examples of in a very public way and this to can be profitable. You could charge a lot for public whippings to the point crime really would pay for the average citizen.
