Wood rescue a 'prearranged pickup' June 16, 2005 THE rescue of hostage Douglas Wood was a 'prearranged pickup' organised by Australian muslim cleric Sheik Taj Al Din Al Hilali, his spokesman said today. The cleric, who was sent to Iraq to help secure the release of Mr Wood is due to return to Australia on the weekend so he can undergo urgent heart surgery. Sheik Al Hilali last night thanked "honest Iraqis" for helping him organise the release of Mr Wood, but needed to rush back to Australia for a second by-pass. A spokesman for the cleric, Keysar Trad, said last night that Sheik Al Hilali had negotiated with Mr Wood's kidnappers to ensure he was dropped at a safehouse to be rescued by American and Iraqi troops.
