re: JAPANESE STOCKS

Fedman,
glad to see you here. Hope your handle (fedupfedman) doesn't indicate you finally came to dislike the job you're doing right now completely..

In Japan, could you divulge the general line of the pencheant of these hedgies ? Importers or exporters ? Financial or industrial ?

I recently read some Industry Monitor publications on Japan that really took my by surprise as it looks like the semiconductor sector there seems to be on the verge of a boom. Few know that but Japan has a great bunch of cheapo undervalued speciality semis apart from the conglomerate types (Toshiba, Hitachi, Fujitsu and the like)..

I would highlight the ANALOG and POWER SEMI companies, many from the second section:

firms like
NEW JAPAN RADIO
SANKEN ELECTRIC
NIHON INTER
SHINDENGEN ELECTRIC
HITACHI METALS
SHOWA DENKO
ASAHI KASEI
ORIGIN ELECTRIC
....
there are others

and my old favourite - semi equip firm JEOL (in metrology)

I keep waiting to get into the Japanese market, except for a brief foray 2-3 years ago. Am worried now at news that John Templeton, who could always be wrong but seldom has been, is shorting Japanese stocks.
