Re: Some analysts say Rafsanjani may be one of the few politicians capable of challenging Khamenei, who staunchly opposes dialogue with the United States.

Well, I guess that Rafsanjani's political uncanniness allows him to expect that the US, spurred by its Israeli Svengali, will prove reckless enough to attack Iran... Of course, both the US and Israel might incur non-conventional reprisals as a result (probably by North Korea), but then, Iran itself will be drawn back to "square one" as all its future oil&gas revenues will be earmarked either for "reconstruction" (as in Iraq) or for US T-bonds, T-bills,... (as in Saudi Arabia).

Rafsanjani knows that, even if an Israeli-US assault against Iran will exact a heavy price from the US in the Far East (China, N. Korea, Taiwan), Iran will end up with devastated infrastructures and billions of dollars up in smoke....
