"If they get the processor ready, that 's what I"m going to use," Warmenhoven said of Intel. "They missed a cycle in what I required. They spent so much time and energy on Itanium. Itanium wasn't what I needed. I needed 64-bit Intel architecture. AMD had it."

If this does not send a wake up call to Intel I just don't know what will. Well, good for AMD (and us) if Intel continues to sink resourcs into Itanium.

Just unbelievable how you can fool yourself in a counter argument (that they want to go after the RISC replacement market with Itanium while all these years they were arguing that the ever increasing performance of the x86 architecture and its associated cost efficiencies will just obliterate the RISC market over time) just because they have made a commitment and refuse to admit that they made a colossal mistake.

Smallpops, Reading this article that rzborusa put up gives me the exact same feeling, NetApp was dragged to offering this kicking and screaming:

Some war corespondent, observed: You can tell how fast the advance is going by the posture of the foot soldier. Crawling on belly probably a one. Running scrunched down gotta be 8 or 9 of 1-10.

The Net App confession sounds like around a 3 in posture ( I am recalling the first Asus k7 mobo's in white boxes). Soon they will all be running.

I think the Intel blood is in the water.

If you don't like these cliches, I have others. :)

SkyNetGlobal Forms Home Media Software Pact With AMD

DOW JONES NEWSWIRES
June 20, 2005

LONDON -- SkyNetGlobal said Monday that it has formed a partnership on home media software with US-based AMD, a microprocessor design and manufacturing company.

The company said optimisations made for AMD64 technology will be embedded in "ShowShifter," SkyNetGlobal's version of digital home media software.

ShowShifter was developed in the U.K. by Home Media Networks Ltd, which was acquired by SkyNetGlobal in April.

Home Media Networks will be developing a high-end version of ShowShifter that is expected to ship in the fourth quarter of 2005 and will include new advanced features.

ShowShifter allows users to watch, record and time-shift (pause) TV, play DVDs, CDs and MP3 music files all through one interface.
