Iraq was then dominated by Sunnis. Now it is not. And the Sunnis and Shiites may have fought against each other, but now they have a common enemy. "Me against my brother; but my brother and me against the stranger". That is the culture out there.

You got there thinking we can sit on a throne and sip Coca-Cola. Now it is time for a little reality!

And don't think that the "divide and rule" policy of setting up the Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds against one another will work. That is a prescription for civil war, and we will get caught in the crossfire and get screwed.

On the other hand, if they unite and fight against the invaders, then we are screwed too. We are pretty much screwed no matter what happens going forward.

The only way out is to add another 200K to 300K troops quickly and hope and pray that it will work, but it may be too late for even that to work, since we put faith in the genius of Chickenhawks like Wolfowitz rather than seasoned military men like Shinseki, and things have gone chaotic over the last two years.
