Hi Bill, I can appreciate that sentiment from an intellectual point of view, but I don't think people necessarily adjust well under those kind of circumstances. In other words, they need time to think about their next direction in life (so job counseling can be very effective). They need to be given a reasonable amount of time to find a job while maintaining a decent standard of living for their family (so government subsidies can help). And they need to be assisted with educational loans to obtain the retraining necessary to re-enter the workforce in a new profession. Unfortunately, many of our government institutions which provide these kind of services are woefully inadequate, and far too many people abuse what is offered to the detriment of those truly in need. Work on privatizing that segment of the problem, and you will see the benefits more acuity.
