Schiavo's parents didn't want to admit that there was no hope for Terri's recovery. If they failed to admit it to themselves then it made them right in their minds.

Psychologists will tell you that the human mind won't allow you to deal with something that you can't tolerate. The death of a child is every parent's worst nightmare.............no matter how old the children are. Terri's parents could not face that reality..............she was beyond hope and they refused to accept that fact.

Sometimes hope is the only thing that people can grasp when the situation is bleak.

I feel sorry for them because they couldn't make a transition to reality. Still, in the face of the scientific evidence, they still refuse to believe they were wrong.
