You could say that has generally been a constant, at least since the New Deal, if your complaint is an overgrown unaccoutable government that does pretty much as it will. The vast expansion of government under the New Deal set the stage for the virtural dictatorship that we now enjoy. Leftwingers asked for this; they demanded an all powerful Federal government to accomplish all sorts of "do-gooder" schemes they desired. Now that their pet has turned into a monster they forget that this was their creation in the first place. There is only one way to reverse this dangerous trend; re-establish states rights as outlined in the Constitution and cut the size of the Federal government back to the size it was before the New Deal. That means that ALL the New Deal programs have to go, starting with Social Security. Get rid of that and you can begin to dismantle the CIA and the whole shadow government that lefties dislike so much. If you want to get rid of the shadow government the welfare state has to go first.
